01 / The practice

Who is responsible.

TheOddtail is the independent design practice of Jachin Jainarain, based in Durban, South Africa. TheOddtail is responsible for the personal information collected through this website and its enquiry form.

This policy explains our approach under South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). Where the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies to our processing, its requirements and rights also apply.

For privacy questions or requests, contact theoddtail@gmail.com.

02 / What you share

Your enquiry.

When you send an enquiry, we receive your name, email address, enquiry type and project brief or role description. You may also provide your company or organisation, project type, budget or salary range, and preferred timing or work arrangement.

We use these details only to respond to you, discuss the project or hiring opportunity you raised, and prepare related proposals. We do not sell your personal information or share it for other organisations’ marketing. Sending an enquiry does not subscribe you to a mailing list.

Name, email, project or role type, and a brief are needed to use the form. Other business details are optional. You can also email us directly. Please include only information relevant to your enquiry.

03 / Keeping the site secure

Technical information.

Cloudflare provides this website’s infrastructure and edge security. Its technical and security logs may contain information such as your IP address, requested URL, request time, browser information and security events. This information supports delivery, reliability and protection against abuse.

The contact form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to check for automated submissions. Turnstile processes browser and device security signals. Our contact handler also uses a hashed IP address for rate limiting; it does not write your enquiry content or raw IP address to an application database or application logs.

The website does not include advertising trackers or a separate visitor analytics script. Cloudflare’s security services may use essential cookies or browser storage, as described in its privacy notices.

04 / Services we use

Infrastructure and email.

Your information is handled by the services needed to run the site and deliver your message:

Cloudflare Workers and Turnstile
Website hosting, request handling, edge security and contact-form abuse protection. Cloudflare privacy policy and Turnstile privacy notice.
Resend
Email delivery. Resend receives the submitted enquiry details and your email address so the message can be delivered to TheOddtail and we can reply to you. Resend privacy policy.
Google / Gmail
Enquiry emails arrive in TheOddtail’s Gmail inbox, where correspondence is stored and managed. Google privacy policy.

This necessary service processing is separate from selling information or sharing it for advertising. Information may also need to be disclosed when a valid legal obligation requires it.

05 / Purpose and storage

Use and retention.

We process enquiry information to take steps you request before entering a project agreement and to communicate about your enquiry. Where appropriate, we rely on a legitimate interest in handling business correspondence and protecting the website, while respecting your rights. If processing depends on consent, you may withdraw it.

Enquiry correspondence is retained while we handle the enquiry and any resulting work. After that, it is retained only where needed for related contractual, accounting or legal requirements. We delete or de-identify information once it is no longer needed for those purposes. You can ask us to explain the retention criteria for your correspondence or request deletion.

Provider security and delivery records follow the relevant provider’s retention arrangements. These services may process information outside South Africa, including in the United States. Cross-border processing is subject to POPIA and, where applicable, GDPR transfer requirements. Contact us for information about the arrangements relevant to your enquiry.

06 / Your rights

Access, correct or delete.

You can ask whether we hold information about you, request access to it, correct inaccurate details, or request deletion where we are no longer authorised to retain it. You may also object to processing where the law provides that right.

Where GDPR applies, you may additionally request restriction of processing or data portability where applicable, and withdraw consent where consent is the basis for processing. Withdrawing consent does not change the lawfulness of earlier processing.

Email theoddtail@gmail.com with the subject “Privacy request”. Include the email address you used to contact us and whether you want access, a correction or deletion. We may ask for the minimum information needed to confirm your identity, and will respond within the time required by applicable law. If a legal obligation prevents deletion, we will explain why.

You can raise a complaint with South Africa’s Information Regulator. Where GDPR applies, you can also contact the relevant European data protection authority.

07 / Keeping this current

Changes and contact.

We will update this page when the website’s data handling changes. The date at the top identifies the latest version.
